ACEM ASM 2021 Cancelled
Despite our hope and determination that this year’s Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) would be delivered as a hybrid event, it has become apparent over recent weeks that our vision of bringing the emergency medicine community together in Otautahi is not going to be possible.
The College has received notification from the Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, advising that due to the current COVID-19 lockdown in New Zealand, the centre has experienced significant delays and, therefore, will not be open in time for our ASM. Given the pandemic’s uncertain and rapidly evolving nature and the inherent risks, a decision has been made to cancel 2021 ASM.
We must also acknowledge the work of our Local Organising Committee, who have worked tirelessly to bring their vision for the ASM to life.
However, the priority must be the health and safety of all attendees, protecting the national emergency medical workforce and emergency patients, as well as ensuring New Zealand and Australia can move forward in the coming months back to some form of normality.
The College is working closely with the Local Organising Committee who are looking at the potential for a rescheduled event in either late 2022 or mid-2023 in Christchurch; we will advise our members of the details once this event is confirmed.
In addition, we are pleased to advise the College will host a one-day virtual event encompassing of our Annual General Meeting and a showcase of our important College work. This one-day virtual event will be held on Tuesday 9 November 2021 and we look forward to sharing more details shortly.
Stay safe and well, and should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the ACEM Events Team.
